In Vietnam, Crinum latifolium is widely recognised under the name Trinh nữ hoàng cung. It has been traditionally used for women’s health, inflammation-related concerns, and general wellness. In other parts of Asia, traditional uses have also included prostate-related symptoms and immune support.

Today, Crinum latifolium extract is becoming more popular in herbal supplements and wellness products because of its active natural compounds.

BPH is a non-cancerous enlargement of the prostate that can cause urinary symptoms in older men. A 2022 study noted that Crinum latifolium has been used in Southeast Asian traditional medicine to help relieve symptoms related to benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) (Wisuwat et al., 2022). Therefore, Crinum latifolium has traditionally been used to support prostate health, and early studies suggest it warrants further research. However, it should not be described as a proven treatment or cure.

In simple terms, Crinum latifolium is not just a regular plant. It contains active natural compounds that may affect cell activity, inflammation, and immune responses.

This is one of the stronger areas of research for Crinum latifolium, but the evidence is still insufficient to conclude that the plant treats prostate enlargement. In other words, Crinum latifolium has traditionally been used to support prostate health, and early research suggests this area deserves further study.

For example, a 2013 study found that Crinum latifolium extracts inhibited the proliferation of mouse lymphoma cells in vitro and encouraged further in vivo studies. “In vitro” means the study was done outside the body, such as in a lab dish (Nguyen et al., 2013). It is acceptable to say that Crinum latifolium has been studied for anti-proliferative activity in laboratory research. It is not safe or accurate to say that it treats cancer.

A 2022 review in the South African Journal of Botany concluded that scientific data point to promising medicinal applications and that further studies are needed to build stronger evidence (Gasca-Silva et al., 2022).
